Maria “Christina” Toste, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Filomena Mestre, RN, both employed by the Silver Creek Nursing Home, are the Rhode Island Health Care Association’s CNA and Nurse of the year, respectively.

According to their nomination papers, entered by administrator Nathan Blundo, Toste has served as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Silver Creek since 2000 and has dedicated more than two decades to providing exceptional resident care. “Christina consistently goes above and beyond to ensure residents receive not only the physical assistance they need but also the compassion, dignity, and personal attention they deserve,” it reads. “She develops genuine relationships with residents and takes the time to understand their individual needs and preferences. Her attentiveness, patience, and positive attitude enhance the resident experience every day. Residents and family members frequently recognize Christina for her exceptional care, particularly on the short-term rehabilitation unit where she has helped countless individuals feel comfortable, supported, and respected during their recovery journey.”

Mestre received an equally glowing endorsement.

“For more than 50 years, Filomena Mestre has been a cornerstone of resident care at Silver Creek. Throughout her remarkable career, she has served in numerous roles, including CNA, Floor Nurse, Infection Preventionist, and Charge Nurse, giving her a comprehensive understanding of resident care and facility operations. Filomena consistently goes above and beyond to ensure residents receive exceptional care, addressing not only their physical needs but also their emotional and psychosocial well-being. She is known for arriving early, staying late, and always making time for residents, families, and coworkers, regardless of how demanding her workload may be. Her tireless advocacy, clinical expertise, and unwavering commitment to excellence have enhanced the quality of care provided to generations of residents and have made a lasting impact on the Silver Creek community.”
