Sailboat runs aground in Kickemuit during storm

Posted

The Kickemuit River is a well-known shelter for boat owners who want to anchor safely out of tropical storm and hurricane-force winds. One made it all the way from Pennsylvania before the remnants of Hurricane Elsa blew through, only to drag an anchor line in the wind and end up on a sandbar just off the Laurel Park beach. The 43-foot Dufour Sunny Mango, based out of Palm Cay Marina in the Bahamas, sustained no damage after ending up in the shallows and was re-floated with no problems after the tide came back in, Harbormaster Ed Cabral said. It was the storm's only casualty in Warren.
