Running for fun…and funds

Posted

Colt Andrews School held their annual Fun Run fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Town Common. The run is the culmination of a series of challenges and lessons at which students learn adaptability and teamwork. Students did activities, read stories, and earned prizes aligned with this year’s theme, “Global Kitchen”. Funds raised benefit the Colt Andrews Parents Group (CAPG), which uses the proceeds for such things as stipends for teachers, field trips, special assemblies and after-school activities. The CAPG had set a fundraising goal of $20,000; but at time of the Fun Run they had reached $30,000 and proceeds were still coming in.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
