Police question man accused of trying to break into Barrington home

Local man was not charged

A Barrington resident reported a possible attempted break-in last week. The Anoka Avenue resident said the incident occurred on Jan. 7 at about 6:56 p.m., although it was not reported until Monday, Jan. 11.

The resident told police his doorbell camera captured footage of a man trying to enter his home. The resident shared the footage on social media, resulting in a flurry of comments.

Police reviewed the footage and recognized the man — it appeared the man had grabbed the door handle, police said. Officers contacted the individual and questioned him about the situation.

Police said the man offered an explanation: He said he had seen someone run into the resident’s backyard and was trying to alert the homeowner to the situation.

Police did not charge the man.
