The 51st annual Newport International Boat Show takes place over four days, from Thursday to Sunday, Sept. 15 to 18. Spread along five sites encompassing more than 14 acres, visitors can check out boats at the Newport Yachting Center, Oldport Marine, Bannister’s Wharf, Bowen’s Wharf and Market Square.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be hundreds of boats in the water, both power and sail, as well as shuttles bringing visitors to cruisers.

There will be in-water training courses for both power and sail, at both beginner and intermediate levels, plus courses for women only.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
