Powered by the arm — and bat — of pitcher Maddie Reis, Mt. Hope dominated Rogers High School Tuesday to take game 1 of the three-game championship series, 11-0.
Mt. Hope will have its first shot at a Division 3 championship when the two teams meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Rhode Island College in Providence.
Reis, a senior, was dominant again — as she has been throughout the Huskies’ undefeated regular season and playoffs — hurling five shut-out innings and striking out 7, while masterfully working her way out of what few jams she faced.

At the plate, Reis was just as dominant, going 3-3 with 6 runs batted in, including a three-run, line-drive homerun that just cleared the left-center field fence and put the game away in the fourth. That followed an RBI single in the first and a two-run double in the second.
The Huskies offense was relentless, taking control of the game during a six-run second inning. Centerfielder Jess Cerce drove in two runs and scored a pair, wreaking havoc on the base paths with a stolen base and a scamper home on a wild pitch. First baseman Sam Eddy scored three runs on three hits, and catcher Brianna Gendreau added a pair of runs on two walks.
Reis surrendered 3 hits and 3 walks, but quickly stifled any Rogers rallies. Rogers’ only real scoring threat came in the fourth when a walk and a double put runners on second and third. But Reis struck out two to end the threat, before effectively ending the game with her blast in the bottom half of the inning.
