Man who threatened to kill trooper sought

Rhode Island State Police need the public's help identifying a suspect who threatened to kill a Rhode Island State Trooper during a phone call with Warren police two months ago.

Just before 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, Warren police received a call from an unidentified man who stated that a trooper would be assassinated within the next 72 hours.

"Watch your back within the next 72 hours on the border of Connecticut, watch your back," the man told the Warren dispatcher. "The Mexican gangs are out to get them."

The dispatcher asked the man why an assassination was coming, and he replied, "Because they did not bring charges against the young man that killed the poor Spanish baby and the woman. That is racist and an abuse of power." He was apparently referring to a double fatal accident last September in which police did not have enough evidence to bring charges against the driver.

Officers tracked the February call to a pay phone in front of a business at 657 Dexter St. in Central Falls. Detectives obtained video footage and still photos of the suspect, but still have not been able to identify the suspect. They're posting videos and still photos online, as well as a recording of the threatening telephone call, and are seeking any and all leads.
