To the editor:
I've never been one to hesitate to criticize the Bristol Town Council when I have felt the criticism was justified, but I will also readily admit when they need to be praised, and such was the case at the recent town council meeting where a proposal to build a hotel on Gooding Avenue was discussed.
This hotel project has been proposed a number of times over the years, and fortunately the town has always rejected the project due to it being located on environmentally sensitive wetlands. As a homeowner who has suffered from flooding in my yard and basement for decades due to elected officials allowing development on these wetlands, it was promising to see numerous councilors cast a wary eye on this ill conceived plan, and hopefully this council will deny the developers of this proposed hotel and any other construction that will exacerbate an already bad situation.
My neighbors and I have been suffering from severe flooding problems in our neighborhood for many years, and I hope the current town council will reject any proposed development in this wetland area before our homes and neighborhood become completely ruined.
