Memorial Day…
A still Monday in May
Let it always sway
Honoring Veterans where they lay
For there be no more today
Just owning yesterday
Never knowing God’s plan
Hard to be a man
Protecting this land
Buddies struggling in the jungle or in the sand
This be a tight band
Vowing I can
Once full of life
Nobody wanted this strife
Balanced on the edge of a knife
Thinking about a wife
Or maybe a mother, for she, like no other
Attend the parade
Avoid the fade
Never grade
Can’t afford afraid
Who would trade
Too many, so dearly paid
Brother, sister, daughter or son
In foreign lands until done
Aiming the gun
Loading ammo by the ton
Enemies to shun
Souls pledged not to run
In the end, who won
So many brave
Designed to save
Fighting wave after wave
Some hidden in caves
Never be a slave
Avoid the grave
Just look at what They gave
Constrained by structure
Sacrificing a future
Repeatedly, it’s yes sir
Could be he or perhaps her
Questioning pure
Never sure
A true Patriot’s allure
Yes, families grieve
From the moment their loved one leaves
Chests do heave
Fixated on tapestries these Angels did weave
And now the tombstone
Like some millstone
So Alone
Never fully grown
Ain’t no war zone
Here, Forever be a Revered Throne
