Letter: Can't wait to start as Westport's new athletic director

Posted

My name is Shelly Morris, and I am honored and humbled to be named the new Director of Athletics/Student Activities Coordinator.

I would first like to thank Superintendent Thomas Aubin, Principal Laura Charette, and the rest of the search committee for their time and efforts during this search process. It was their thorough approach and the passion they displayed for this community that made it easy for me to accept this tremendous opportunity. I have spent the better part of my life surrounded by sports. My experience in athletics over the past few decades, coupled with my educational background in Athletic Administration, has provided me with the leadership and skillset needed to be successful in the position.

Sports provide our student-athletes the opportunity to grow and learn outside of the classroom. I am looking to enrich their athletic experience, build character, and empower them to become leaders of this community. My goals are to ensure that student-athletes are provided a positive environment to succeed and equip them with the tools they need to balance the demands of playing the sports they love while finding success. in the classroom. By offering programming around leadership, teamwork, time management, and mental health, we can shape and prepare the for life after high school.

Through collaboration with my colleagues in the district and our coaching staff, I am looking to build on the success our programs had this past year. I believe we can broaden our marketing presence to celebrate our team's and student-athlete's successes on and off the field. We can partner with the community to grow our fan base, provide service, and enhance the Wildcat culture.

There is a tremendous amount of pride in this community and within the halls of this beautiful new school. I am excited to begin cultivating relationships with the students, faculty, and staff, as well as with people across the district, to help grow and sustain all of our programs.

As we approach the new school year and fall season, I can't wait to come together to support our students, display our pride, and lead with integrity.

Go Wildcats!

Shelly Morris
