The Mt. Hope High School girls' volleyball team assured itself of a spot in the upcoming Division I state championship playoffs after the Huskies dispatched visiting South Kingstown, 3-1, during a match play in Fitzgerald Gym Monday night, Oct. 26.

The Huskies won by the scores of 27-25, 19-25, 25-19 and 25-17. More importantly, the locals improved to 5-11 upon their return to the state's top tier after spending the last several seasons in Division II and locked up the 12th and final spot in the upcoming championship tournament.

Mt. Hope appears headed to a preliminary round playoff match against either Portsmouth (10-7) or East Providence (9-7), one of which will be the No. 5 seed in the postseason.

The Huskies conclude their 2026 regular season with a home match against Cranston West on Senior Night Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6:45 p.m.

Against the Rebels, Margaret Thorp led the Mt. Hope hitters with 12 kills. She added three service aces and four digs.

Stella Hill had nine smashes, two blocks and three digs. Natasha Lightfoot had seven kills, five aces and three digs. Hayden Sylvia set for 30 points, added 13 digs and an ace.

The Huskies also received solid contributions from just about everyone on the floor throughout the evening, including Ava Resendes at libero along with Sarah Sustakowsky, Vivienne Noonan, Lillian Konz and Maya Costa up front.
