The Kickemuit Middle School girls' and boys' soccer clubs both began their 2026 state championship tournaments in recent days.
KMS is undefeated and the reigning state champs on the girls' side. The Huskies smothered Deering-West Warwick, 8-0, as the second-seeds and the first-place team in the Eastern Division regular season mproved to 11-0-0 for the fall.
The KMS boys, meanwhile, had a much more difficult outing to their state tourney stay, needing extra time to earn a 4-3 win over DelSesto-Providence in a preliminary round outing played at Roger Williams University in Bristol Tuesday, Oct. 20.
The score was tied through 60 minutes of regulation before Jack Duarte potted the game-winning goal in the 68th minute of the second, five-minute overtime period.
Savio Antonio scored twice for the locals, one off a free kick and one on a penalty. Charlie Jacobs added the other tally. Keeper Logan Simas made seven saves.
The Huskies, who also finished atop the Eastern Division ranks with a 6-1-3 mark, next host Cole-East Greenwich Thursday afternoon, Oct. 22, at Vets Field in Warren at 5:30 p.m.
