The Barrington High School boys ice hockey team notched another important league win this weekend, with a 5-2 victory over the Smithfield Sentinels (2-1-1) on Friday night.

The win improves Barrington’s record to 6-6-3 (3-5 in league play) and keeps the Eagles in contention for a spot in the postseason.

The Eagles started strong, taking a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by sophomore Trevor Snow, assisted by freshman Henry Kelsey. In the second period the Sentinels gained momentum with two goals. Goalie Cam Siwik stopped a penalty shot to keep the Sentinels from taking the lead, and the second period ended tied at 2-2 as the Eagles added a goal by freshman Chase Watts assisted by seniors Sam Faulkner and Josh Leblanc.

The Eagles bounced back in the third period with three unanswered goals to end the game. Third period goals were scored by Snow, Kelsey and sophomore Ben Lebreche and assisted by sophomore Adam Gorman and freshmen Cameron Hayes and Kelsey.

The Eagles play two critical league matches this week, first on Wednesday, February 2 at home (Portsmouth Abbey Rink) at 6 p.m. against the Cumberland Clippers (2-4-1) and then on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Bishop Hendricken (5-1) at Thayer Arena in Warwick. Masks are required at the Portsmouth Abbey rink.
