To the editor:

In response to the strong currents of racism in our nation, to the rise of Black Lives Matter, to the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor by the police, and to recent incidents of racism in Little Compton, a group of concerned citizens began gathering Sunday mornings. 

We felt we needed to do something but were not sure what. Over the course of subsequent weeks, we established a name, The Little Compton Coalition for Racial Justice (LCCRJ), a mission statement, and a format for exploring our own racism and elements of racism in our town. 

The Little Compton Coalition for Racial Justice aims to create a true coalition. We hope other local groups that aspire to identify and dismantle racism in our town will contact us at TheLCCRJ@gmail.com. 

We also welcome all who would like to join our discussions. We meet Sunday mornings, 10:15 to 11:30 a.m., behind the Brownell Library in Little Compton. We remain compliant with standard practices of safety during the pandemic, wearing masks, remaining six feet apart, and splitting into several groups of under 15 attendees, if necessary. Please bring a folding chair, if you would like to join our discussions.
