EAST PROVIDENCE — A Boston man died in a single-car accident in city in the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 10.

At approximately 12:55 a.m., East Providence Police officers responded to the vicinity of 1085 Warren Ave. after receiving a report of a metal traffic signal pole and sign down in the roadway.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a single vehicle had failed to negotiate a turn, travelled over the traffic island and entered the wooded area just east of location, near the Warren Avenue intersection with County Street. The vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Officers located the sole occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Phillip Holub, age 31 of Boston, Massachusetts. Holub was pronounced deceased at the scene by members of the East Providence Fire Department.

The initial investigation shows speed to be a factor in the motor vehicle crash. The East Providence Police Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash.
