Barrington Police are investigating a Saturday morning car accident that left two people dead.
Police said the accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on the Wampanoag Trail just south of the Barrington/East Providence line. It appears the vehicle was traveling south on the Trail.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw a car off the road in the woods — “the vehicle sustained heavy damage,” stated a press release from police.
“Both occupants, a male operator in his 30’s and a female passenger in her 20’s were transported to RI Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Both parties were seat belted,” stated the release. “Speed appears to be a factor.”
Police have not released the names of the people killed in the accident, as family had not yet been notified.
“Our sincere condolences go out to their families and friends,” stated the release.
