Barrington police charged Drew Vatter, 18, of Barrington, with reckless driving on Thursday, July 9.
Mr. Vatter was the driver of the Audi SUV that crashed on Washington Road on Tuesday, June 30.
Police said Mr. Vatter was driving an Audi SUV south down Washington Road at about 2 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle, slid sideways across the road for a couple hundred feet before slamming through a utility pole and crashing to a stop in a wooded area. The vehicle was badly damaged and caught fire.
Police also issued motor vehicle citations to Mr. Vatter for speeding, laned roadway violations, and reasonable and prudent speed. Police said the reckless driving charge will be heard in District Court.
