Barrington

Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: I am a Democrat running for Town Council to help Barrington thrive - by including diverse perspectives, encouraging the growth of local businesses, preserving our public services, and engaging our community. I never shy away from a difficult task and will be vocal and transparent, stay focused and disciplined, and see multiple perspectives to make sure that Barrington is a hometown for all of us. Our town is ready for engaged, transparent, and energized leadership and I look forward to all we can do. I am endorsed by the Barrington Democratic Town Council, the Young Democrats of Rhode Island, RI NOW, and the Rhode Island Democratic Women's Caucus. A new resident of Barrington, I live with my husband Ian, two children Maylie (11) and Rory (8), and two dogs: a golden retriever, Magnus, and a King Charles, Seamus. I love to garden, renovate and cook - using my creativity to envision and cultivate something new.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
