Ann Costa

Bristol

Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: My decision to run was based on what was happening in our General Assembly or more accurately what we were failing to see happening.

Our Bristol and Portsmouth small businesses are failing because the governor is not releasing $900 Million in CARES money to help them survive. Bristol cannot function without our small businesses. They belong to our neighbors, friends, and families. The General Assembly leadership and their members have done nothing to meet, review the state budget, or end the governor’s executive powers.

Another motivator to run was that parents should be able to send their children to schools that best suits their values and children’s abilities, rather to see them struggle in a program that isn’t working. School choice needs to be an option for parents for their child’s education. Putting restrictions on places of worship is obstructing our First Amendment right. Freedom of worship as we choose is why our founding fathers placed it in the Bill of Rights. We cannot allow our rights to be taken away or restricted indefinitely by any one person or government.

Finally, we need to support our police, fire, first responders, active duty military, and Veterans. My slogan is: Value what you have. Make what you have more valuable! Worship, Family and Business. Let us get our state fully up and running with your vote for my candidacy this November 3rd.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
