PORTSMOUTH — A 59-year-old Little Compton woman was charged with driving while intoxicated, her second offense, after plowing through a stone wall outside a Middle Road residence on Tuesday, Jan. 8, police said.
According to Detective Lt. Michael Arnold, officers were dispatched to the area of Middle Road and Mill Lane around 3 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a motor vehicle accident.
When they arrived they found a 2010 Chevrolet that had crashed through a stone wall, he said. It had been operated by Susan M. Sherman, of 57 Francis Lane, he said.
“The officer made contact with the operator who displayed obvious signs of intoxication,” said Lt. Arnold, adding that Ms. Sherman failed a field sobriety test.
A bottle of brandy was found inside the vehicle, he said.
Ms. Sherman was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and refused any further testing, he said. She was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and failure to maintain proper control of a vehicle, Lt. Arnold said.
