No explosives were found following a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of Portsmouth High School Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Police were called at 1:19 p.m. after school administrators received a bomb threat, police said in a statement.

Police immediately evacuated students and staff first to the football field and then onto buses, where they were transported to the Masonic Lodge.

Police said no explosives were found during a search by Portsmouth and Rhode Island State Police and the state bomb squad. Bristol and Middletown also sent officers to assist with security.

Dozens of cars lined up along Turnpike Avenue after 2 p.m., but police blocking the high school's main entrance told parents they would have to wait.

The incident is under investigation by the Portsmouth Police Detective Division. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Detective Division at 401-643-0194 or the general line 401-683-0300.
