Two Portsmouth residents charged with domestic assault

PORTSMOUTH — Two local residents were recently charged with domestic assault by Portsmouth Police.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25, Maurice Lemur Taylor, 40, of 39 John St., was arrested on a Portsmouth Police warrant at the Brenton Hotel in Newport  by the Newport Police Department around 9:50 p.m.

Taylor was transported to the Portsmouth Police headquarters, and he was held overnight before being transported to 2nd District Court in the morning. The victim was a 41-year-old Portsmouth woman, according to police.

On Sunday, Oct. 30, police arrested Robert Joseph Viera Jr., 61, of 323 Indian Ave., after receiving a 911 call involving a domestic verbal argument that took place between a man and a woman at a Dorothy Avenue home.

Viera had left the home before officers arrived, but they later stopped him on Middle Road around 9 p.m., police said.

The victim was a 53-year-old woman, police said.

Wednesday, Oct. 26

Kaitlin Louise Eckert, 25, of 95 Larch St., Apt. 9, East Providence, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), her first offense, after being pulled over on West Main Road around 1 a.m. for speeding and committing roadway violations, police said. Eckert was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test, according to police.

Matthew Lee Pimental, 38, of 217 Warren St., Fall River, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after a vehicle in which he was a passenger was pulled over on Route 24 North at Turnpike Avenue around 4:20 p.m. 

Thomas Peter Weathers, 43, of 37 Sowams Drive, Bristol, was charged with DUI, his first offense, after a motor vehicle stop on East Main Road at Steve’s Pizza around 10:30 p.m. Weathers was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test, police said.

Thursday, Oct. 27

Saleeta Nicole Cross, 33, of 3B Ludlow Road, Middletown, was charged with obstructing an officer in execution of duty, and possession of false identification, around 1:10 p.m. Cross was charged on a Portsmouth Police affidavit warrant following a motor vehicle stop by the Tiverton Police Department, police said.

Tyler J. Daneau-Vieira, 26, of 282 South St., Bridgewater, Mass., was arrested on a 2nd District Court bench warrant and also charged with driving without an active license, his first offense. He was pulled over on the Bristol side of the Mt. Hope Bridge around 9:15 p.m. after being observed following too close to the vehicle in front of him, according to police. 

Friday, Oct. 28

John Roderick Souza, 63, of 3225 East Main Road, Apt. 106, was charged with disorderly conduct (fighting and tumultuous behavior) around 12:15 p.m. According to police, the arrest was the result of a call for service at Mr. Souza’s home. 

Michael Paul Lavoie, 26, of 43 Gatehouse Drive, Fall River, was charged with DUI, his first offense, following a motor vehicle accident on Boyds Lane at Chase Road around 9:20 p.m. Lavoie was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test, police said.

Sunday, Oct. 30

Sierra Megan D’Monte Soares, 20, of 1818 Meridian St. Left, Fall River, was charged with DUI, her first offense, after officers found her vehicle pulled off to the side of the roadway on East Main Road at Union Street around 12:40 a.m., police said. The vehicle was still running, and Soares was in the driver’s seat, police said. Soares, who admitted to operating the vehicle, appeared intoxicated, according to police. She was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test, police said.
