PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School gymnastics team split its season opener at the Newport County YMCA on Saturday.
Portsmouth notched a team score of 121.20 and beat Prout (100.05) but lost to Mt. Hope High School (131.9), the defending Division II champs.
Caroline Daly led the Patriots in the all-arounds, notching an overall score of 32.35. She scored an 8.4 on the floor exercise, an 8.0 on the balance beam and uneven parallel bars and a 7.95 on the vault.
Melanie Williams scored a 29.6 overall, recording a 7.85 on vault, 7.4 on floor exercise, 7.2 on balance beam and 7.15 on uneven parallel bars.
Emily McClure scored a 7.9 on the beam, 7.8 on the vault, and a 5.25 on the bars.
