PORTSMOUTH — A local man was charged with domestic assault, third offense, following his arrest at home last Friday, Jan. 8.

Eric A. Soares, 52, of 54 Maize Corn Road, was also charged with domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property, and violating a no-contact order. 

According to police, officers responded to the home around 8:15 p.m. to investigate a report of a man who was in violation of a no-contact order. Upon their arrival, they found Mr. Soares at the residence, police said.

There was also evidence that Mr. Soares had assaulted the protected party and had vandalized the home earlier that night, according to police. 

The victim was a 58-year-old female Portsmouth resident, police said.

Monday, Jan. 4

Nicole P. Buetow, 27, of 228 Hillside Ave., Newport, was charged with driving without an active license after she was pulled over for a traffic violation on West Main Road at King Charles Drive around 3:20 p.m.

Jessica A. Hanson, 40, of 68 Pierce Ave., Tiverton, was charged with being a fugitive of justice following a stop for a traffic violation on Route 24 North at Sprague Street around 6:35 p.m.

Thursday, Jan. 7

Jennifer Aguiar, 31, of 12A Woolsey Road, Middletown, was charged with simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct after she entered the police station and reported a physical assault that had just taken place at 2340 East Main Road. Officers responded to the home, interviewed all parties and determined that Ms. Aguiar was the primary aggressor during the incident, police said. She was charged at the police station around 3:20 p.m. The victim was a 43-year-old female from Bristol, according to police.

Sunday, Jan. 10

A 17-year-old boy was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after police were called to assist with a stop of a motor vehicle that was eluding Bristol Police. The vehicle was located in Portsmouth and observed to be actively fleeing from Bristol Police units, police said. The vehicle lost control and became disabled on West Main Road shortly before 5 a.m. The juvenile was also cited for underage possession of alcohol, and refusing a chemical test. He was released into the custody of his father, according to police.
