Portsmouth girls beat Middletown in injury fund game

D-I Pariots lead by as many as 24 points

PORTSMOUTH — The Lady Patriots forced Middletown to turn the ball over about 30 times, which propelled Portsmouth to a 59-38 injury fund win at home Thursday night, Dec. 12.

The matchup was the opening game of a double-header in the PHS field house. In the second game, the Portsmouth boys blew out Middletown, 84-30.

The Division I Patriots built a 10-point lead at halftime over the Division II Islanders and extended its leader 24 at one point in the second half.

Portsmouth’s Logan Lucenti led all scorers with 17 points. Courtney Swider and Gabby Schenck also had good games, combining for 31 points and 14 rebounds.

Next up

The PHS girls will next host Prout School tonight (Friday, Dec. 13), at 7 p.m., before traveling to St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket for a non-league game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

They’ll return home for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, Dec. 19, against La Salle Academy, before hitting the road again to play North Kingstown at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23.
