Portsmouth falls to Middletown in non-league game (photos)

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High boys’ varsity basketball team got off to a shaky start to the season Friday night when it lost to Middletown in a non-league game at home, 52-45.

The Patriots are in Division I, while the Islanders compete in Division II.

Portsmouth will try to rebound in a game against Cranston East on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

After that, the Patriots return home for two games — against Bishop Hendricken on Thursday, Dec. 15, and Cumberland on Monday, Dec. 19. Then they travel to Narragansett for a game on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

All games begin at 7 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
