PORTSMOUTH — The Hamilton Family Charitable Trust (HFCT) has awarded the student-run Portsmouth AgInnovation Farm a $20,000 grant to support ongoing programming at the farm.

AgInnovation is a partnership between the Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District (ERICD) and the Portsmouth School Department.

“We are thrilled to have funding for our program efforts as we strive to improve and expand our practices to better serve the students and their vision of all that AgInnovation can be. Thanks to the Hamilton Family Charitable Trust, the future work at the AgInnovation farm will be bigger than ever,” said Sara Churgin, ERICD district manager.

The funding specifically goes towards enhancing AgInnovation’s afterschool and summer camp STEAM programs and building capacity for the spring, summer and fall 2024 sessions.

AgInnovation is a student-driven community farm education program where participants problem-solve through authentic learning and community collaboration, to help them become productive citizens in our community. Margie Brennan, the farm’s educational director, is the driving force behind the program.
