Country Day at Pardon Gray

Posted

The Tiverton Land Trust is bringing back a popular tradition with the return of its Country Day at Pardon Gray, a beloved community event that was held for approximately 15 years before going on hiatus. Expect a full day of family activities, food, music and opportunities to connect with local organizations.

Tiverton High School students and educators will help lead activities throughout the day, including bird box building, face painting, and an instrument “petting zoo.” Country Day favorites will return as well, including hay rides, live music, farm animals and the popular pie table, where every slice sold comes with a free scoop of Helger’s ice cream. Tiverton Land Trust volunteers will also be grilling food for sale.

Families can enjoy miniature ponies from Forza Cavallo Farm, pumpkin decorating, bubbles, magnet fishing, a sandbox pit and other hands-on activities.

The day will also celebrate Tiverton’s history and natural environment through cemetery tours with the Tiverton Cemetery Commission, rain barrel demonstrations from the Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District and botany walks with ecologist Tim Piacentini.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
