Aidan Chen ties Portsmouth High record in high jump
Boys take third in Class B Championship meet
PORTSMOUTH — A Portsmouth High School record was tied on the way to the boys’ indoor track team’s third-place finish at the Class B Championship meet on Saturday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.
Aidan Chen won the high jump event with a best effort of 6 feet, 6 inches. That tied the school record previously set by Ryan Davis from the Class of 1999.
Chen’s win also qualified him to compete in the New Balance Nationals.
Altogether, the Patriots set six personal records, according to coach Evan Denard.
The other All Class finishers (within the top three) for the Patriots were:
• Sean Gray, 1,500-meter run, second place, 4:15.14
• Landon Rodrigues, 55-meter hurdles, third place, 8.04 seconds
• 4x200-meter relay team (Chris Wilkie, Sean Wilkey, Nate DeConto, and Landon Rodrigues), third place, 1:37.01
Girls place seventh
The PHS girls’ team came in seventh place in the Medium division, with 39 points.
The best showing was by Allie Kaull, who took second place in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:42.41.
