EAST PROVIDENCE — The week that was recently for culinary students and staff at the East Providence Career and Technical Center was a busy one for sure as some hosted a dinner for Coast Guard families affected by the federal government shutdown and other vied in the Eighth Annual Rhode Island ProStart Competition.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the EPCTC dining facility, staff welcomed members from the USCG post in city for supper as a show of gratitude for their efforts and sacrifices during the recent shutdown.
In Providence at the Omni Providence Hotel, Thursday, Feb. 7, the EPCTC entry “Laguna Food Truck” defended its state title in the Foodservice Management portion of the event where students were tasked with creating a concept, the physical layout of the operation, a marketing plan and a menu. The “Team Laguna” members Kyle Duggan, Luana Rodrigues, Shelby Wilkerson, Nayele Viera and Kyle Xavier now ready for the ProStart national event in May in Washington D.C. The EPCTC “Second Chance Diner” team of Adriana Peixoto. Michelle Moniz and Jasmine Hazard also took part in the state competition but did not place.
