EPHS competitive cheer team preps for 2020 slate

Schedule includes several invitationals, championship events

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School 2020 winter competitive cheerleading team will be attending several invitational events leading up to the championship meet schedule at the end of the season.

The Townies’ slate of competitions is as follows: West Warwick High School, February 16; Ponaganset High School, February 22; Mount St. Charles Academy, February 29; Rhode Island Cheerleading Coaches Association Championships, March 7; Rhode Island Interscholastic League State Championships, March 14; New England Championships, March 21 (if qualified).

At the championship level, EPHS will compete in the Co-Ed Division this season with both male and female athletes on the squad. The Townies, twice previously overall team state titlists, vied last winter in the Large Schools Division, won by Pilgrim of Warwick. West Warwick, which claimed the Co-ed Division title, won the 2019 overall state championship and later went onto win the New England Co-ed crown.

The 2020 Townies’ roster includes: Thais Akpabie, freshman; Jada Alves, junior; Mollie Amaral, junior; Gianna Araujo, freshman; Maya Bastanzi, freshman; Mary-Katherine Boudreau, freshman; Kailey Dias, junior; Terrance Fry, senior; Skyla Godfrey, junior; Skyla Marchand, sophomore; Amanda Morais, sophomore; Hanna Nolan, sophomore; Kailyn Perry, junior; Mackenzie Rivers, sophomore; Janessa Steele, freshman; Kimberly Witherell, sophomore; coaches: Chris Ricci, Chantel Ricci.
