Winter Storm Elliot did a number on Westport Friday, washing out East Beach Road and inundating Westport Point with a tide three or four feet above the normal high.

At the point, Harbormaster Chris Leonard watched Friday morning as the water rose all the way to the front door of the harbormaster's shack — it's the "highest I've seen since I started working for the town," he said.

As he watched the water rise, the highway department was busy nearby, blocking off East Beach Road to traffic and sending out backhoes to clean up the tons of debris that washed up to and over the road during the storm.

Though damage along the coast was obvious, there were relatively few power outages reported during the height of the storm. National Grid's outage maps showed about 37 customers near Devol Pond without power, but that was it in Westport.
