The Westport Board Health is urging residents to keep water conditions in mind, after low rainfall and high temperatures contributed to Level 2 Drought conditions in Westport and across most of the Commonwealth this week.

A drought watch is in effect to increase awareness of current dry conditions and to encourage water conservation. Private well owners are being asked to be mindful of the amount of water being used, to reduce indoor and outdoor water use, and to address leaks as soon as possible.

Water conservation will greatly help reduce water use to ensure essential needs are being met, such as for drinking water, fire protection, and habitat and environmental use, Health Director Matthew Armendo said.

The Board of Health recommends avoiding outdoor water usage via automated sprinklers, lawn watering, filling swimming pools, and washing cars and buildings.

If any private well or public water supply well runs dry, Armendo asked that you please report it to the Westport Board of Health.
