Volunteers collect tons of garbage in Westport

Posted

Team COW (Clean Our Westport)had a very successful Spring litter cleanup day the Saturday before last. Martin Costa, Team COW's founder, reports that more than 175 volunteers showed up to pick enough litter off Westport streets to fill a 40-yard dumpster. That's twice the amount collected last year, he said:

"That's good and bad", Costa explained. "This this year's volunteer participation was the largest turnout yet. But bad because of the incredible amount of litter folks toss on to Westport streets." Costa said corporate sponsors that gave financially, and in-kind donations helped make the day one to remember; WinWaste Innovations donated the 40-yard dumpster, Perfect Smiles Dentistry and BayCoast Bank donated volunteer teams and financial support, Quintessential Gardens, Westport Rivers, Long Movers, Residential Properties, and Westport Ace Hardware also contributed.

"It's truly a team effort of private citizens, town officials, and local businesses who believe in what we are doing,"Costa said. "When we work together we can do great things."

Team C.O.W. held the event in partnership with the Westport River Watershed Alliance.
