WESTPORT — Westport’s annual town election yesterday brought just over 1,800 voters to the polls, appointing a handful of new faces and re-electing some old. Here were the results:
Select Board
Steven J. Ouellette and Manuel Soares Jr. will occupy the two open seats on the Select Board.
Soares, unlike Ouellette who has served on the board for 21 years, will be a brand new addition to the team––although he is no stranger to Westport’s government. The longtime resident is already a member of the Planning Board and has served on various public service committees, including the Tax Incentive Committee and the Technical Review Committee.
Town Clerk
Kristin Stinson was voted to become Westport’s new Town Clerk.
Stinson, who is the town’s current Assistant Town Clerk, will be occupying the seat vacated by the retiring Bernadette Oliver.
Library trustees
Pauline B. Dooley and Paula A. Feitelberg were elected to fill the two vacant seats on the Westport Library’s Board of Trustees.
Although Dooley has served as a trustee for the past 25 years, Feitelberg––who is a tutor at the Fall River Deaconess Home––outvoted Paul Cabral, a candidate that had previously served on the board for ten years.
Unopposed candidates were elected to the Board of Health (Donna M. Amaral), the Regional School Committee (Paul R. Jennings), Board of Assessors (Peter A. McGarr), Fish Commission (Sean M. Leach), Landing Commission (Wendy W. Henderson), Constable (Arthur G. Caesar and Marshall Rocco), School Committee (Evan Gendreau), and the Planning Board (John K. Bullard).
Westport voters also approved the use of excluded debt for the funding of Diman regional vocational school in Fall River––the project that will cost a projected $293 million––meaning that the town will be able to pay off their portion of the cost without dipping into their yearly operating budget.
