Warren resident finds two pearls in quahog

Posted

A Warren resident recently made a shocking (in the best way) discovery when steaming open some quahogs for a chowder recipe.

“My husband, Karl and I have lived in Warren for 35 years, 22 of those years on Pokanoket Trial, right on the Kickemuit River,” said Kathy Rohrman. “Karl can be spotted with his clam rack taking in a few littlenecks and quahogs on any given day when the tide is low. He has always enjoyed it, and can be seen even during the very cold winter months, because he can’t resist, it’s in his blood!”

Rohrman said that Karl was very excited to find the two pearls, but that he is not sure what he is going to do with them yet.

“This is his second lucky pearl find, actually,” she said. “Crazy, considering they say that only 1 in 100,000 quahogs have a pearl of any kind. About 10 years ago he found a beautiful deep purple, perfectly round one, in the Kicky and decided to have a necklace custom made with it. He gave it to our daughter for her graduation. She cherishes it.”
