When Goglia’s market closes its doors, Bristol won’t lose just a great neighborhood market, it will lose an institution. No other place shares its one-of-a-kind character.
Built by three generations of Goglias over 100 years, this friendly home of the most awesome Italian grinder within driving distance has become a revered Wood Street fixture and a reliable routine for many.
Victor and Anne Marie Goglia established a personable vibe that put customers at ease and encouraged humorous banter. More often than not, friends met friends to catch up on local and family news as Victor added the comic aside.
Where will Red Sox fans go now to argue their team is better than the Yankees? The gathering spot at Victor's cooler will be sorely missed.
Goglia’s top quality food items will also be missed. From custom-ground beef to hand-sliced ribeye, Victor passed on his family’s insistence on only the good stuff, including Rhode Island favorites like locally bottled soda, Federal Hill veal and bread from Bristol and Fall River. All taste buds met at Goglia’s.
Institutions like Goglia’s are the glue that hold every community together, set the example for common decency and good taste, brotherhood, hard work and the unmeasurable rewards of free enterprise on Main Street, USA.
Goglia’s has been the model for how to govern ourselves, with respect and caring for our neighbor, providing for those in need and bringing joy to all. We will fully realize the positive social impact of this drop-in only now that it’s gone.
Thank you, Goglia’s, for the life lessons! As we navigate our way together through Covid-19, we wish you well, keep you in mind and count you among our blessings.
