Choose your favorite Warren Walkabout poster

One local artist will soon become the first winner of the Warren Walkabout poster design contest, and you still have time to choose your favorite design before voting closes on Friday.

Choose your favorite by clicking here.

“It’s always been an idea to have some sort of contest to get more artists involved, so we did it this way this year,” said Keri Cronin, who has been working with fellow Discover Warren co-chair Katie Dickson and Erin DeThomas, chair of the Warren Arts and Cultural Commission, to coordinate the contest. “I think we got a very interesting and diverse selection, they were all very unique.”

The three finalists were selected by the Warren Arts and Cultural Commission, and now the public will decide the winner, who in addition to having their design used for promotional materials throughout the Walkabout events will also receive a $300 cash prize.

The three finalists each represent a different style of artistry, and all three are from Rhode Island artists (one from Cranston, two from Warren). They each encompass elements that pay homage to the history of the town or evoke emotions from the Walkabout event itself.

Cronin said that next time they do the contest, hard copy submissions will be allowed to be handed in in person, whereas this year was all digital.

"That was a lesson learned," she said.

Cronin also mentioned that any artists, retailers, restaurants, musicians or other creatives who want to participate in the Warren Walkabout should fill out this form, which will be compiled into an electronic schedule of events as the event draws nearer.

The Warren Walkabout will be held three consecutive Sundays, from 12-5 p.m. on Oct. 16, 23 and 30.
