Portsmouth Police charge man with child molestation

PORTSMOUTH — A 30-year-old man from Pennsylvania was charged by Portsmouth Police last week with two counts of second-degree child molestation.

As a result of an investigation by the department’s Detective Division, police issued an arrest warrant for Michael D. Houser, of 407 North Wilbur Ave., Sayre, Penn.

Members of the Bradford County (Penn.) Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of Sayre Borough Police Department, apprehended Houser at his place of employment on March 7. He was arraigned and committed to the Bradford County Jail on $250,000 bail as he awaited extradition back to Portsmouth, according to the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office.

Houser was formally charged in Portsmouth shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday, April 8.

Here are some other recent arrests made by Portsmouth Police:

Tuesday, April 9

Connor S. Mullen, 20, of 38 Harbor View Road, was charged with domestic assault shortly before midnight. Officers responded to an Attleboro Avenue home after getting an 911 hangup call, and upon their arrival learned that the victim had been involved in a physical altercation in Mullen’s vehicle outside of the home, according to police. Officers discovered that Mullen had thrown a drink in the victim’s face and grabbed her by the hood as she attempted to exit the vehicle, police said. With the assistance of Middletown Police, Mullen was later taken into custody at John Clarke Senior Living on Valley Road in Middletown, police said. He was held at the police station pending his arraignment.

Alex Figueiredo Andrade, 35, of 24 Napoleon St., Fall River, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), first offense, after being pulled over for failing to maintain the lane of travel on West Main Road at Raytheon at about 4:20 a.m., police said. 

Tiffany N. Scott, 36, of 36 Colfax St., Fall River, was charged with obstructing an officer in execution of duty shortly before 7 p.m. Scott was pulled over in the Founders Brook Motel parking lot on Boyds Lane for committing a signal turn violation, police said. Officers observed a cut straw and an unknown pill within the vehicle, and while conducting a probable-cause search Scott admitted to providing a false name, police said.

Wednesday, April 10

Jose Miguel Diaz Rodriguez, 25, of 9 Oak St., was charged with domestic assault, his first offense. Officers responded to his home at about 2 a.m. after getting a report of a domestic assault, police said. According to police, the victim was a 24-year-old Portsmouth woman who was evaluated by the Portsmouth Fire Department before a family member drove her to Newport Hospital for further evaluation. Diaz Rodriguez was held at the police station before being transported to 2nd Division District Court in Newport the following morning.

Joshua Duane Sawtelle, 35, of 201 Pitman St., Providence, was charged with domestic vandalism, with malicious injury to property. The arrest was made at about 3 p.m., after officers were dispatched to the areas of East Main Road and Goulart Lane for a report of a domestic incident. The victim was a 39-year-old Portsmouth woman, police said.

Thursday, April 11

Nicola Maria Smith, 51, of 122 Holly Circle, Tiverton, was charged with DUI, first offense, after being pulled over on Hummock Avenue and Riverside Avenue shortly before 8 p.m.

John Joseph Woznakewicz, 42, of 161 Busher Drive, Middletown, was arrested at about 9:40 p.m. after allegedly breaking into a garage on Lilac Lane, police said. Officers had responded to the home to investigate a report of a B&E in progress, and found Woznakewicz in the garage, police said. Officers had previously been looking for Woznakewicz in regards to a prior call for service, and said he exhibited signs of impairment. Woznakewicz was charged with B&W of a dwelling house without consent; and DUI, first offense. He was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test, his second offense, police said. He was held overnight before his morning arraignment.

Saturday, April 13

Claudejuline Zemia, 46, of 2951 East Main Road, was charged with disorderly conduct (offensive words at another) after officers responded to the area of East Main Road at Village Way around 3 p.m. to investigate a report of an unruly and disorderly female, police said. 

Mikle Paul Costa, 44, of 8 Flintlocke Drive, Plymouth, Mass., was charged with DUI, first offense, after being pulled over for multiple traffic violations on West Main Road at the Route 25 North on-ramp around 9:20 p.m., police said. Costa was also cited for refusing a chemical test.

Sunday, April 14

Patricia M. Ching, 39, of 126 Bailey St., Apt. 2, Central Falls, was arrested on a Central Falls Police Department warrant after being pulled over for running a stop sign on Anthony Road. She was booked and later transferred to the custody of Central Falls Police.

Monday, April 15

Bryan W. Dewitt, 34, of 30 Potter St., Newport, was charged with driving without an active license, his fourth offense. His vehicle was pulled over for an equipment violation on West Main Road at Mail Coach Road at about 1:15 a.m., police said.
