DEM: No parking restrictions at Town Landing

Posted

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) won't allow the town set aside half of the 24 parking spaces at the Town Landing for the exclusive use of Little Compton residents. A group of citizens last year asked the town council to restrict parking at the popular overlook, complaining that the small lot is often jammed to overflow by cars and trucks with out-of-state plates. But because DEM provided the town with grants that funded improvements at the popular spot, town administrator Antonio Teixeira told councilors recently that DEM informed him that restrictions aren't allowed, and the state has the final say.
