Westport Council on Aging assists with Covid vaccine scheduling

Posted

WESTPORT — The Westport Council on Aging (WCOA) is actively assisting Westport residents in scheduling Covid-19 vaccination appointments.

Call the WCOA from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 508/636-1026 to ask to be put on a waitlist based on your eligibility. There are three waitlists; homebound, 75-plus and 65-plus. Once you are on a waitlist, the WCOA will call you when vaccine appointments become available and assist you in registering.

Be aware that they have no way of knowing when that will be. It could be two weeks or two months. They ask everyone to please be patient and the COA will do everything they can to assist you to get the vaccine.

The WCOA is coordinating with other towns and agencies including the town nurse to act as the center point for vaccine scheduling information. They have the latest information on current sites with open appointments.  Westport is partnering with Dartmouth to offer public vaccine clinics for eligible residents. These will be held in Dartmouth. All 1,000 appointments for the first clinic held on Saturday, Feb 6, were filled.

Future clinic dates and times cannot be posted until they have confirmation of how much vaccine the state will actually allocate each week. We will post the clinic schedule on the BOH website and through e-alert as soon as they can.

Please, DO NOT CALL the Board of Health or Dartmouth Public Schools if you do not see slots available. Do not go to any vaccine site if you do not have an appointment.

If you prefer to schedule your own appointments here is some helpful information:

• Be sure you are signed up for e-alerts in order to get timely notice of the Dartmouth vaccine clinics: https://www.westport-ma.com/subscribe.

• When a clinic is scheduled in Dartmouth, you can make an appointment at https://www.maimmunizations.org/. Bring proof of ID and the self-attestation of eligibility form (or fill it out onsite) to the clinic. Wear loose-sleeved clothing.

• Now eligible are those age 75 and older and all of Phase 1 priority categories, including home-based health care workers and non-Covid facing health care workers.

• Telephone support for persons 75-plus without Internet access who wish to make vaccine appointments at public clinics is now available by calling 211.

• Southcoast Health will begin vaccinations at three local sites this week — https://www.southcoast.org/covid-vaccine/.

More information on vaccine eligibility, locations and scheduling including current and planned vaccination sites across the state can be found at www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-vaccination-locations.

The WCOA welcomes anyone interested in volunteering for this effort. Contact Beverly Bisch, WCOA director of senior services, at 508/636-1026.
