Three Wildcats scored in double figures as the Westport basketball team came back to beat Holbrook 77-66 in a Mayflower Athletic Conference away game on Friday night. The win boosts the Wildcats overall record to 14-2 with four games left to play in the regular season. Westport junior guard Hunter Brodeur led all scorers with 20 points, freshman guard Owen Boudria netted a career high 19 points and senior captain Aidan Rock scored 15 points as the Wildcats overcame a 31-34 halftime deficit. Brodeur has found his scoring touch of late, scoring 20 or more points in his last three games. The speedy junior scored six in the first quarter, six in the second, two in the third and six more in the fourth quarter.
Boudria heated up and caught fire in the third quarter, scoring 13 of his 19 points, with two three pointers.
“Owen is a special athlete,” said Coach Boudria. “He’s a freshman. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do later on in his career.”
Rock carried the team in the fourth quarter and scored 11 of his 15 points. Cam Leary, Ben Poitras and Max Morotti each scored six points during the game and Jayden Zuber scored five points.

Wildcats lose to rival West Bridgewater in fierce overtime battle, 72-66
Earlier in the week, bodies were flying, crashing, falling and diving all over the court as the Westport basketball team lost a fierce duel to rival West Bridgewater 72-66 in overtime in a Mayflower Athletic Conference home game on Wednesday night. The loss dropped the Wildcats record to 13-2, with both of the Wildcats losses coming at the hands of West Bridgewater, who pulled out the victory by out scoring Westport 11-5 in the overtime period. Junior guard Cam Leary sank a three pointer from the top of the arc to give Westport a brief 64-63 lead with 2:17 to play in overtime. Freshman guard Owen Boudria tied the score 66-66 with 136 left, by driving between two West Bridgewater defenders along the baseline for a right handed layup. But the Wildcats scoring dried up and West Bridgewater scored six points down the stretch to secure the victory.
“We played good. They played better,” said Coach Boudria. “You got to compliment them for playing as well as they did.”
Westport led 20-17 after the first quarter and 35-33 at halftime, before falling behind 39-46 early in the third quarter after a West Bridgewater 13-4 run.
Six foot senior forwards and captains Aidan Rock and Dom Vitorino battled West Bridgewater seniors Chase Ryan, Zach Bellody and Ryan Hulme on the boards all game. The West Bridgewater trio all stand between 6’6” and 6’7” inches tall.
“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog,” said Coach Boudria.
Rock and Vitorino faired better on the defensive boards compiling 19 rebounds, than on the offensive end where the duo grabbed just 4 boards.
With Westport down and needing a bucket, Rock tried to penetrate through Ryan and Hulme. It was like running into a brick wall. The two behemoths thwarted Rock, then Hulme grabbed the rebound and headed up court. The determined senior captain sprinted after them, positioned himself under the basket and wrested the defensive rebound away from the scrum.
“Aidan played like a warrior,” said Coach Boudria. “He battled guys that probably had a two foot reach on him. He muscled and grinded and he represented what this basketball team is.”
“Dom got hurt early and battled his way through it. Jayden Zuber played well coming off the bench. Ben Poitras battled he worked hard,” he said.
Junior guard Hunter Brodeur led all scorers with 26 points. The quick scrappy guard scored six in the first quarter, nine in the second, nine in the third, but just two in the fourth. When it looked like West Bridgewater was about to go on a run and pull away in the third quarter, Brodeur hit three three pointers in a row. His last tied the score 49-49.
Jayden Zuber replaced Vitorino for a spell after he hurt his ankle in the fourth quarter. The big forward scored four of his eight points and gave Westport a 61-60 lead with 4:28 left to play. The game became a defensive battle until overtime.
“It was a well fought game,” said Coach Boudria. “We just didn’t have enough left in overtime to win.”
Westport scoring vs West Bridgewater: Hunter Broduer scored 26 points, Aidan Rock scored 10, Owen Boudria and Justin Zuber each scored 8, Dom Vitorino scored 6, Ben Boudria and Ben Poitras each scored 2.
