To the editor,
Who is David Sullivan?
Mr. Sullivan is an Independent candidate who claims to have no party, no affiliations. And yet, he has the endorsement of the Republican Party—which is not surprising considering that the last time he ran for office, he ran as a Republican—and lost.
Mr. Sullivan boasts that he is a businessman and has the know-how to fix this state. I cannot help but think of the former politicians who sold themselves as businessmen: former President Bush, who led us into this country-wide economic crisis; former Governor Carcieri, who brought Rhode Island the 38 Studios disaster. What’s next? We cannot afford another “businessman” who will bring us more financial ruin.
Mr. Sullivan’s first order of business is not to research and propose bills that will bring jobs to East Providence or make investments in education. Instead his first order of business will be to propose term limits. How will this have a direct positive effect on our economy? Mr. Sullivan is also on the record for wanting to eliminate sales tax and the car tax. He wants to follow New Hampshire’s tax policies. First, it bears explaining that New Hampshire has a much higher property tax. Perhaps Mr. Sullivan plans to raise our property taxes? If not, where exactly does Mr. Sullivan propose to find the funds to run our city and our state? He has yet to answer that question.
Moreover, how will he keep his promises if he cannot explain how he will convince a majority of the House to agree to his ideas? East Providence does not need a representative who will “bang the drum” (as per Mr. Sullivan on 10/24/12), but a representative who can get the job done – who can convince the House to do what is best for East Providence. I believe that person is Katherine Kazarian.
Katherine Kazarian, is educated, honest, energetic, caring and willing to listen. I’m voting for Katherine Kazarian for State Representative in District 63!
