Warren PD: Police make eight arrests, including four DUIs

Warren Police had a busy week, making eight arrests, half of which were for driving under the influence, between Sept. 25 and Oct. 2, 2023.

Warren PD: Police make eight arrests, including four DUIs

Monday, Sept. 25

Erickson N. Da Veiga, 28, of 24 Hillsboro St., Boston, Mass., was arrested at 12:11 p.m. following a report of a customer becoming unruly after being asked to identify himself while making a purchase at a store. He was charged with simple assault and/or battery, obstructing an officer in execution of their duty, and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned and released later that afternoon.

A caller reported an erratic driver going north on Rt. 136, which may also have an inactive registration.

A caller reported a hit and run at 7:06 p.m. near Franklin Street. The incident did not result in injuries, but police put out a BOLO alert to Barrington and Bristol in case the vehicle was spotted in those towns. The vehicle was apparently missing its front bumper.

Douglas Edward Bate, 52, of 223 Lauro St., Apt. #B, Fall River, Mass., was arrested at 11:01 p.m. following a report of an intoxicated man. He was charged with domestic violence (simple assault and/or battery, 3rd+ offense), simple assault and/or battery, and domestic violence (disorderly conduct, first offense). He was transported to court the following morning.

Tuesday, Sept. 26

A dead deer was reported in the road at 6:52 a.m., which brought about a call to DEM for disposal.

Michael Simoes, 35, of 71 Varnum Ave., Bristol, was arrested at 1:27 p.m. following a motor vehicle stop. He was charged with DUI of liquor (BAC unknown, second offense), obstructing an officer in execution of their duty, resisting arrest, and refusal to submit to a breathalyzer. He was arraigned and transported to the ACI later that evening.

A caller reported someone was staying in a camper for the past couple of days near the tennis courts at 5:48 p.m. Police told the person they needed to disperse from the area per Town ordinance.

Wednesday, Sept. 27

Graffiti was reported at 1:52 p.m. on an unspecified building.

A caller reported at 3:40 p.m. that the Bristol County Water Authority had damaged his vehicle that morning while conducting road work.

A caller reported multiple people were cutting bait on construction equipment in the area of the Barrington and Warren bridges at 5:17 p.m. Barrington police were advised the parties were seen near Sowams Road.

Kayla Chirnside, 35, of 18 Glenview Dr., Bristol, was arrested at 9:18 p.m. following the report of a woman destroying belongings. She was charged with two counts of domestic violence (vandalism and disorderly conduct, both first offenses). She was arraigned and released to the custody of a friend later that evening.

A noise complaint was logged by a caller on Metacom Avenue at 10:07 p.m. Police learned a farmer on that road was playing loud classical music “to keep deer away from his plants.” He was advised and agreed to turn the music down.

Thursday, Sept. 28

Fraudulent use of a credit card was reported at 8:07 p.m.

Police returned a wallet that was left on a bench outside of Town Hall at 10:54 p.m. to its rightful owner.

Friday, Sept. 29

Thomas Blease, 28, of 5 Calder Dr., Warren, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop at 12:25 a.m. He was charged with DUI of liquor (BAC unknown, first offense), and refusal to submit to a breathalyzer. He was arraigned and released later that morning.

A caller reported a hit and run occurring near Metacom Avenue at 3:13 p.m. Bristol PD was advised, who found the other party allegedly involved, who denied hitting anyone.

Antonio DaCosta, 47, of 15 Overhill Rd., Warren, was arrested on an active warrant at 7:10 p.m. He was charged with failure to stop for an accident resulting in damage to a vehicle. He was arraigned and released later that evening.

Saturday, Sept. 30

Gabriel Francis, 52, of 57 Asylum Rd., Warren, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop at 12:53 a.m. He was charged with DUI of liquor (BAC unknown, first offense), and refusal to submit to a breathalyzer. He was arraigned and released later that morning.

A woman reported she found her tires slashed at 4:16 a.m.

Sunday, Oct. 1

Maria Barboza, 70, of 285 Metacom Ave., Apt. #1st, Warren, was arrested at 1:18 a.m. following a report that a vehicle in a driveway was smashing into multiple other vehicles. She was charged with DUI of liquor (BAC of 0.15 or greater, first offense). She was arraigned and released later that morning.

Police restored the peace at a local eatery at 2:01 p.m. following the report of a man inside who was “irate and causing a disturbance,” possible related to a “verbal argument with a cook.” The report indicates the business closed for the day as a result.
