Warren PD: Bristol man arrested after attempted robbery with knife

Monday, July 31
A man on Railroad Avenue reported that another man had harassed him while driving by in a vehicle at 1:31 p.m.

A Kathleen Drive resident reported at 7:11 p.m. that sunglasses had been stolen from their vehicle.

A cat set off an alarm on Bowen Street at 8:32 p.m., causing a frightened homeowner to call the police before realizing the feline was the culprit.

Tuesday, Aug. 1
DEM was notified of a person digging for quahogs on Water Street at 11:39 a.m.

Police received a report of five pool chairs being stolen from an address on Main Street at 12:51 p.m. The owner believed they might have been borrowed and was going to follow up to check.

Police dispersed a panhandler asking people in cars for money near Main and Joyce Streets at 1:50 p.m.

Police looked for a man who reportedly made strange comments to a woman as she was entering a building on Main Street around 5:50 p.m. He had left the area when police arrived.

Police dispersed people having a verbal argument on Nobert Street at 6:02 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 2
An injured skunk was reported on Barney Street at 7:20 a.m.

John Loughran, 31, of 366 Child St., Apt. #B, Warren, was arrested on Child Street at 1:00 p.m. He was charged with the possession of a stolen vehicle (first offense). He was arraigned and transported to the ACI later that evening.

Two young males who were possibly soliciting on Cottage Street were reported at 3:09 p.m. The had moved on by the time police arrived.

Juveniles were dispersed from the area near the broken bridge project behind Kickemuit Middle School at 7:26 p.m.

Police dispersed two women on Bowen Street at 9:47 p.m. who had gotten into a verbal argument over a parking spot.

Thursday, Aug. 3
An employee of a business on Metacom Avenue reported at 3:19 p.m. that a vehicle had been vandalized in their parking lot.

Police dispersed a woman from Joyce Street who was reportedly knocking on another person’s door at 5:42 p.m.

An Arlington Avenue resident reported at 10:47 p.m. that juveniles had been shining a green laser pointer into their home.

Friday, Aug. 4
A Main Street resident reported at 4:23 a.m. that there were people outside trying to mess with their air conditioning unit. Police didn’t find anyone at the scene.

Norman Escobar, 46, of 179 Orms St., Apt #1, Providence, was arrested on Child Street at 4:27 a.m. He was charged with domestic violence (criminal violation of a no contact order, second offense), DUI of liquor (BAC unknown, first offense), refusal to submit to a breathalyzer, and domestic violence (disorderly conduct, first offense). He was arraigned and transported to the ACI later that evening.

A sick skunk was reported on Miller Street at 10:50 a.m.

A solicitor going door-to-door was reported on Summit Drive at 12:22 p.m. They were informed of proper soliciting procedure in town.

A Main Street resident reported seeing a man with his pants down at 2:33 p.m. but the police didn’t locate him.

A Metacom Avenue resident reported at 6:49 p.m. that another car had struck their vehicle while parked and fled the scene.

Police responded to Greene Street at 11:36 p.m. for a possible breaking and entering in progress. As a result, three juveniles were arrested along with Donte Gomes, 19, of 221 Market St., Apt. #2, Warren. Gomes was charged with two counts of domestic violence (attempted breaking and entering, and disorderly conduct, first offense). The three juveniles (one male and two females, one aged 17, one 15, and one 14) were each charged with one count of conspiracy (felony less than five years), and one count of disorderly conduct. The juveniles were released to the custody of a parent, while Gomes was arraigned and transported to the ACI the following morning.

Saturday, Aug. 5
Police received a call from a man working for DoorDash on Child Street at 12:41 a.m. indicating someone had approached him at knife point threatening to take their phone. After refusing the threat, the suspect fled west on Metacom Avenue. Bristol Police assisted in setting up units at the town line, and eventually apprehended the suspect matching the description. As a result, Kevin DeBritto, 39, of 50 Shireman Ave., Bristol, was arrested and charged with felony assault and/or battery, two counts of possessing prohibited weapons other than firearms, and disorderly conduct. He was transported back into the custody of Warren PD, was arraigned, and later released.

A Child Street couple reported at 2:21 p.m. that their vehicle had been keyed the prior night.

Emergency personnel were called to Cutler Street to assist with an apparent overdose at 4:13 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 6
Police looked in the area of Child Street and Arlington Avenue following the report of fireworks at 2:52 a.m.

Chad Travers, 36, of 18 Kelly St., Warren, was arrested on Kelly Street at 1:28 p.m. following the report of a fight. He was charged with the possession of a prohibited large-capacity magazine and two counts of domestic violence (simple assault and/or battery, and disorderly conduct, both first offenses). He was arraigned and released later that evening.

An injured groundhog was moved to the side of the road on Greenlawn Avenue at 2:06 p.m.

A noise complaint was logged on Water Street at 5:57 p.m. regarding the noise of the Burr’s Hill Concert Series. Four additional complaints were logged between the first complaint and 6:50 p.m. The recreation director was notified.
