The Barrington Town Council approved an ordinance which will create a three-way stop on Maple Avenue at West Street.

The council held a public hearing for the ordinance during the March 7 meeting. The ordinance calls for stop signs at the intersection of Maple Avenue and West Street — one stop sign facing west-bound traffic on Maple and one facing east-bound traffic. (There is already a stop sign facing traffic on West Street.)

The change was endorsed by the town manager, and the police chief. Barrington resident Judy Semonoff also shared her recommendation for the new stop signs.

“We really appreciate that this is being considered. This feels like something that would enhance the safety and pedestrian use in this area,” she said.

Barrington Town Manager Phil Hervey asked the council allow his office some time to notify residents of the upcoming change and paint the necessary markings on the road.

The council obliged, voting 5-0 to pass the ordinance which will go into effect on April 4.
