Truck pulls down pole, cuts power in Warren

Incident occurred Thursday afternoon

Posted

Nobody was injured, but houses along Ridgeway Drive were left without power Thursday afternoon when a truck caught a utility pole guide wire and pulled down the pole around 4 p.m.

Warren Fire Chief James Sousa said the truck, with two occupants, was picking up a dumpster from a home's driveway when it caught the guide wire and subsequently pulled down the pole. The occupants called for help on a cell phone, and Chief Sousa said they  made the right decision to stay in the truck until the scene could be made safe.

Fire officials called National Grid to come out and cut power to the pole, and at that point the man safely exited the truck. It took several hours for National Grid crews to repair the damage and restore power to the neighborhood.
