Tri-Mack sold to Swedish aerospace manufacturing firm

According to chairman, buyer Trelleborg Group intends to grow the business and workforce while remaining in Bristol

Last Wednesday, October 21 Tri-Mack signed an agreement to be acquired by Trelleborg Group, through its Trelleborg Sealing Solutions business area and Global Aerospace unit.

Founded 52 years ago as Mack Plastics by chemists Ed and June Mack, the company thrived for several years at their former Hope Street headquarters before moving to Tupelo Street in 1986, then to Broadcommon Road in 2018.

In 2000, the company changed its name to Tri-Mack Plasctics Manufacturing Corp, which specializes in precision engineered thermoplastic and thermoplastic composite solutions for critical aerospace, defense and I do ndustrial applications. The company has established itself as a trusted supplier of tight tolerance precision components, building a strong reputation for technical excellence, collaboration, responsiveness, and quality.

“When I think about the challenges my parents faced, starting out in an old sail loft while raising eight kids, it is remarkable that we are signing this agreement 52 years later,” said Ed Mack II, Chairman of the Board. “My parents did not start this company with the idea of selling it to a global corporation. They believed they could build something worthwhile that incorporated their values. I believe they would be delighted to see just how well their values have persevered and just how worthwhile their endeavor has become.”

Tri-Mack operates a vertically integrated manufacturing facility which is well equipped for injection molding and toolmaking, thermoplastic composite processing, precision CNC machining and bonding and assembly. Through a collaborative approach, the company delivers highly engineered solutions to meet the demanding requirements of its customers.

Headquartered in Trelleborg, Sweden, Trelleborg Group is a multi-national engineering company which already operates five dedicated aerospace manufacturing facilities in North America, producing advanced components for the aerospace industry. The company operates through three major business areas of Industrial, Medical, and Sealing solutions, combining deep application expertise with a strong focus on innovation.

“I see this new alliance as the perfect strategic fit. Trelleborg’s global presence will open access to new markets. Tri-Mack’s engineering focus and technical capabilities mesh very well with Trelleborg’s,” said Will Kain, Tri-Mack’s CEO. “Lastly and perhaps most importantly, our similar values and corporate cultures will allow our existing team to make lasting contributions toward our mutual goal of enduring growth.”

Combining Tri-Mack’s diverse capabilities and experienced team with Trelleborg’s international presence will aid both companies in increasing their business capacity and expanding the opportunities offered to customers worldwide. The complementary nature of the two businesses will enable them to offer a broader range of products and services, leading to global growth which will benefit future generations of employees and customers.

This transaction is expected to be finalized by early 2027; financial terms have not been disclosed. In the meantime, the Tri-Mack team will continue to operate as usual, with no change to its location or existing business contacts.

“This acquisition is aligned with Tri-Mack’s overarching goals for long-term growth, building on the company’s established legacy here in Bristol,” said Tri-Mack President Tom Kneath. “Being part of a global organization will create new opportunities for our employees and more comprehensive solutions for our customers. We look forward to partnering with Trelleborg and launching an exciting new chapter in our company’s history.”
