TIVERTON — Sergeant William Munroe, a twenty-seven year member of the Tiverton Police Department, has been

charged with thirty (30) felony counts of forgery/uttering. The charges were filed today by the Rhode

Island State Police after an investigation was requested by the Chief of Police. The case will be reviewed and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s office.

Sergeant Munroe was previously charged by State Police with fourteen counts of larceny in December 2018, and he pleaded nolo contendere to two counts of larceny on or about June 18, 2019.

Sergeant Munroe has been suspended with pay since his larceny plea entered on June 18, 2019 based on the requirements of the Rhode Island Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights.

As a result of the new felony charges, Sergeant Munroe will be suspended without pay and benefits effective immediately, and his unpaid suspension will remain in effect until the new felony charges are adjucated.

Pursuant to the "Officers’ Bill of Rights," the Town of Tiverton and the police department say they are not able to provide any further details on this matter at this time.
