It's Raptor Weekend in Bristol

Owls, hawks and falcons, formidable and magnificent predators of the sky, are rulers of the avian world. Wildlife rehabilitators and experts from across the Northeast will bring a wide variety of these extraordinary birds for live presentations, educational programs, games and activities for all ages.

WHAT: Annual Raptor Weekend

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9 and 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s Nature Center and Aquarium, 1401 Hope St., Bristol

COST: $17 for adults; $12 for children 4 to 12; $55 for family four-pack. There also are two-day passes. Children under age 3 free.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
